Cell Vents
Masonry Cell Vents are small components used in concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction to help with air circulation, moisture drainage, and equalization of pressure within wall cavities or block cells. They play an important role in maintaining the long-term integrity and performance of masonry walls.
 Purpose of Masonry Cell Vents:
Moisture Control:
Prevent buildup of moisture inside block cells, helping reduce mold growth, efflorescence, and freeze-thaw damage.Ventilation:
Allow for passive airflow inside the wall cavity or block cells, aiding in drying and pressure equalization.Weep Functionality (in veneer walls):
Some cell vents are used in combination with weep systems to allow trapped water to exit at the base of walls.Aesthetic Integration:
Designed to blend in with mortar joints for minimal visual disruption.
Typical Features:
Materials: Plastic, stainless steel, or aluminum.
Sizes: Typically fit standard 3/8" or 1/2" mortar joints.
Shapes: Rectangular or round grille-style inserts.
Installation Locations:
Base of masonry walls
Above flashing levels
Under windows or other penetrations
