XR is DeWalt's professional tier, and the DCD800 is what happens when they stop compromising. Up to 2000 RPM in high gear for fast boring in wood and metal, 0–650 RPM in low for heavy fastening, and a high-output brushless motor delivering up to 40% more Unit Watts Out than the DCD791 it replaces.
At 6.37" of head length — half an inch shorter than the DCD791 — it still fits between studs and inside cabinet boxes, but the tool is built for sustained heavy work rather than occasional access jobs. The 1/2" metal ratcheting chuck is the tell: it grips harder and survives abuse that cracks a polymer chuck when a hole saw binds.
The LED is a genuine upgrade over the usual foot-mounted light. Three positions, three modes, up to 70 lumens, and a spotlight mode with a 20-minute shutoff — so you can aim it, set it, and leave it lighting an attic or crawlspace while you work with both hands.
For fleet managers: the chip pocket accepts a Tool Connect DCE042 chip for tracking through the Tool Connect Site Manager app. Chip sold separately.
Note: This is a bare tool. Battery and charger sold separately.
