The screwgun for when speed alone isn't enough. At 81 in-lbs, the DW272 delivers a third more torque than the faster DW255 — the difference that matters when you're driving into 20-gauge steel studs, hitting doubled framing, or fastening through thicker board where a high-RPM gun just spins and cams out.
You give up a little speed to get it: 4,000 RPM instead of 5,300. On light-gauge residential field work that's a fair trade in the wrong direction, but on commercial steel-stud jobs it's exactly the right one. Torque is what sinks the screw; RPM only helps if the fastener is actually turning.
The depth-sensitive nosepiece is where the money is either way. Set it once and every screw seats to the same depth — just below the paper, ready to mud, without tearing the face. Dial it on the first sheet and stop thinking about it: no backing out overdriven screws, no proud heads catching a knife, no callback from the taper.
Built to survive the duty cycle. Helical-cut, heat-treated steel gears run inside a metal gear housing rather than plastic, with ball and roller bearings throughout. The two-finger rubber trigger spreads pressure across your hand, which matters when you'll pull it a few thousand times before lunch. At 3.1 lbs it stays workable on ceilings.
Takes fasteners up to #8. Standard clutch, variable speed, reversing. 8-foot cord.
